MAr · 2019What is Plein Air?
Plein air is a French term that describes painting outdoors, working with the challenges and pleasures alike of the ephemeral qualities of changes in lighting, due to the time of year, day and weather. Painters work in all mediums with transportable paint tubes and often the classic box easel to create "en plein air" - "in the open air. The Whitemarsh Art Center holds an annual Plein Air Paint Out event in Spring and our Thursday morning painting class often incorporates plein air painting.
