Offering a variety of artistic events, workshops, and competitions that will both expand creative horizons and provide a fun and exploratory artistic experiences.



Gregory J. Nowak Memorial Plein Air Competition



In-Person | RESCHEDULED for Saturday, June 3, 2023



Details: Our annual Gregory J. Nowak Memorial Plein Air Competition will be in-person. Artists will get their blank canvases stamped at Abolition Hall in the morning, paint or draw outdoors wherever they'd like, and bring their finished work back to Abolition Hall by 4 PM.


Prizes: All entries will be juried anonymously. Awarded by a guest juror: $300 first prize, $200 second prize, $100 third prize. Awarded by artists' choice vote: $75 for adults (18+), $75 for kids. Gift certificates for honorable mentions.


Rules: Work should be created using traditional mediums (digital art is not an acceptable medium). We're excited to see your interpretation of the inspiring places in our community! View our event page for more information

Dates: The show will be displayed on-site from December 9 through January 3. There will be an opening reception on December 9 from 6 –8 PM

Animal Portrait Competition

Past Event Details: Calling all creative spirits! We invite you to join us for our 1st Animal Portrait Competition. Modeled on our popular Plein Air Event and Still Life Competition, spend the day painting or drawing an animal portrait from the comfort of your own home. Get inspiration from an animal photograph or from real life. Create your work of art in unison with regional artists, see their progress photos, and compete for a series of prizess.


Times: Start as late as you want but no earlier than 8 AM. Turn work in online by 5 PM.


Prizes: Over $500 in prizes. Entry: $25 art center members, $30 residents, $35 non-members
